Pantoprazole is in a family of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It is effective at relieving symptoms like heartburn, persistent cough, and difficulty swallowing that are caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other similar conditions.
